Soke Dr. LeRoy Hines, Jr.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Soke Dr. LeRoy Hines, Jr.  has a simple purpose in life.  He wants to push the martial arts as a science to its highest heights and then some.  By adopting this personal mandate, Dr. Hines probably will not win a Nobel Prize or anything like it, but it's his own little contribution to the world in general and the martial arts in particular.

Dr.Hines holds a 10th degree black belt in Afrijitsu, the system of which he founded (in conjunction with Soke Harrison Davis), an 8th degree black belt in Goshi Shun Karate, 7th degree black belt in Jujitsu, and had studied with other great Martial Arts Masters and Coaches such as, Leonard Trigg, Louis Armstrong, Professor Wally Jay and Mike J. Armatraut, Mahn Suh Park and James Fain.

In addition to Dr. Hines success in the martial arts, Dr. Hines has earned a Ph.D in Finance and Economics From the New School for Social Research, New York City, NY; and A MBA and Bachelors in Finance Degree from Rutgers School of Business and Rutgers University.  Dr. Hines has lectured in business at many colleges and universities in New York, New Jersey, Atlanta and West Africa.

Currently, Dr. Hines is one of the most sought after instructors of the martial arts.  He was known for his cross-training methods in the martial arts long before cross-training became the next new thing.

Dr. Hines began his martial arts training in Judo taught by his father (LeRoy Hines Sr.) who was a Judo coach in the early 1950s and 1960s.  In 1967, he joined the Teen Haven Recreation Center's judo club, located in North Philadelphia.  There, he earned the rank of brown belt.  In addition to Judo, Hines also learned boxing at the Recreation Center and at Joe Frazier's gym held at the PAL Center.   In 1969, he joined Mahn Suh Park Tae Kyun school, also located in North Philadelphia.  There, Hines received the rank of green belt.  In 1971, Hines moved to Newark, New Jersey.  There, he would study Goshi Shun Karate under GM James E. Fain.  Hines received the of rank 1st Degree Black Belt in Goshi Shun Karate.
